We are led by Chantal Wedderburn, our President and CEO, who is steering us towards achieving her vision of growing Champion Controls into the most successful system integration and control systems manufacturer in Florida. Marcel Wedderburn manages our operations and is charged with making sure that we meet our project schedule and quality goals. Shady Al-Zubi manages our engineering group and his oversight ensures that we are using industry best practices and our designs are fully compliant with your requirements. Garfield Monfries and Patrick Boyd together lead the charge in getting the word out to prospective customers about the benefits of doing business with Champion Controls. Andre Wedderburn is tasked with managing our field installation, commissioning, startup work and aftermarket support services such as calibration & troubleshooting.

Chantal Wedderburn has over thirty (30) years of corporate experience beginning at World Transportation Corp (WTC) in New York where she quickly advanced to the president’s assistance while still attending high school. She later worked at Gould Computer Systems (now Gould Electronics) while attending college in addition to juggling the demands of raising a family of five children. At Gould, Mrs. Wedderburn worked in the International Finance Department compiling and analyzing consolidated financial statements for over two dozen of the company’s subsidiaries.
At the time, Gould was a leading supplier of minicomputers, which were then the most advanced computer technology available, long before the growth in popularity of PLC and DCS systems or even PC based control system. Ironically, Gould would later acquire Modicon, the inventor of the first PLC, a product that is so instrumental to the services that Champion Controls provides today.
She continued her financial management career as VP and Financial Manager of Acutec, Inc. before incorporating Champion Controls in 2003. Today she is pursuing her vision of growing Champion Controls into the most successful system integration and control systems manufacturer in Florida.
Mrs. Wedderburn lives a full life with varied outside interests. She holds a Commercial Pilot License with Instrument and Multi-Engine retractable landing gear ratings. She has held various board positions including President and Vice President, and raised and managed hundreds-of-thousands of dollars for school and community volunteer organizations. Marcel Wedderburn has almost ten (10) years of experience at Champion Controls. Mr. Wedderburn manages our operations including the manufacturing staff and is charged with making sure that we meet our project schedule and quality goals. Marcel got his initial exposure to all the functions of the control systems industry while working for his mother’s firm throughout high school.
He studied business in college and gained valuable business experience while interning at major law firms. Buoyed by these experiences, he later returned to Champion Controls as VP – Operations where he is now instrumental in all aspects of operations, supervising bid preparation and estimation, project management, production coordination, personnel management and customer relations.

Garfield Monfries has over twenty (20) years of industrial experience. Prior to joining Champion Controls, he spent nine (9) years performing business development for a leading manufacturer of redundant, high availability, plant automation products which are used for critical control and safety shutdown applications.
Before that, Mr. Monfries held project management positions for several companies in the oil/gas, refining, chemical, environmental and utility markets. He started out his career with Amoco (now BP), engineering production facilities used in oil exploration and production. Throughout his career, he has worked alongside EPC firms and contractors alike on executing large revamp contracts at several chemical plants in the US and abroad. In those positions, Mr. Monfries also supervised mechanical, instrumentation, electrical and control systems construction work and plant startup activities. He has also worked in the environmental and utility industries including recycle centers and nuclear and fossil power plants.
He has extensive experience with PLC, DCS and SIS hardware and HMI/SCADA software platforms. He understands how to implement solutions in the various IEC 61131 programming languages. Mr. Monfries also has practical knowledge of the ISA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, & 10 CFR regulations. Patrick Boyd has over thirty (30) years of corporate experience and is an asset to Champion Controls in the areas of business development, purchasing, scheduling, contact negotiations, employee development, and customer service. Fifteen (15) of those years of work experience are in the controls and automation industry as a project manager. The skills that Mr. Boyd acquired during this time include: Gantt Chart scheduling, procurement, and OSHA safety and human resource management.
Prior to joining the business development department, Mr. Boyd served as General Manager for Champion Controls. Since joining the business development group, he has made immediate impact and has been instrumental in growing our company sales. He is highly respected by our customers and is known for his easy going personality, customer-centric, and honest consultative selling approach. Dr. Shady Al-Zubi heads our engineering group. He has over fifteen (15) years of industrial experience. Prior to joining Champion Controls, Shady spent six (6) years as Lead Project Controls Engineer in charge of a wide range of automation projects for the NASA Langley Research Center. Those projects encompassed design and implementation of industrial equipment such as PLC, HMI supervised systems, VFD’s, servo driver, etc.
Prior to that, Dr. A-Zubi held a number of engineering positions in the automation field throughout the USA ranging from Launch Engineer for auto maker Daimler Chrysler to Controls Engineer for several noteworthy system integration companies. Over his career, he has gained experience in electrical hardware and software systems and subsystems, vision, pneumatics, hydraulics, kinematics, robotic systems (Temperature, Pressure, Flow, Force sensors and more). Shady is proficient in the use of computer applications including RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, AB 6200, AI 2, RsLinx, Panel builder, Panelview, and RsView. His experience includes implementing technologies such as PLC2, 3, 5, SLC, MicroLogix, ControlLogix, Ethernet IP, CONTROLNET, DEVICENET, OPC, Modbus, TCP/IP, HMI, and Data Acquisition.

Andre Wedderburn heads our field services group whom are tasked with supporting startup and commissioning of our custom control systems as well providing aftermarket customer support services to our customers. He has worked for over 10 years with SCADA and telemetry systems design, implementation and integration.
In 2003 he programmed and installed the first Motorola MOSCAD Telemetry system for South Florida Water Management District’s Ten Mile Creek Project in Okeechobee, Florida. That system utilized Rockwell Automation’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Allen Bradley Compact Logic Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Mr. Wedderburn is Factory Trained and Certified by Data Flow Systems as well as Rockwell Automation. He has commissioned and managed numerous SCADA / Control systems throughout the South Florida territory. As a telemetry system expert, Andre is of great value to our company.
